Joseph
Russell Taber
Joseph Russell Taber Jr, age 93 passed away Sept 11, 2011 at SW Health Center, Platteville.
Russ was born on May 26, 1918 in Fair Haven, MA the first son of Joseph R. Sr and Honora (Kilmartin) Taber. He married Marie Lettsome in Marseilles , IL on Dec 6, 1945. Together they had six children. He served in the Pacific during WW II as a member of the Army Air Corps. After a brief stay in Chicago , Russ and Marie joined her sister and brother-in-law, Ed & Rosella Schroeder in moving to Cuba City where they were partners in the Schroeder and Taber general store. In 1955 they moved their family to Fennimore and operated a Gambles hardware store. Throughout his life he was very active in the communities where he lived and was particularly fond of his work with the Boy Scouts Of America. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to boyhood.
The family moved to Platteville in 1961 and Russ continued to work for Gamble. He later spent 10 years on the Platteville Police Force as the Juvenile Officer before mandatory retirement. He then worked as the parts manager at Mound View Motors. Following his retirement he worked for the Mergan-Boll Funeral Home in Platteville. Russ was the worlds best husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years Marie of Platteville; children Tom (Bev) of Platteville; Jim (Pam) of Stream Wood, IL; Sharon (Tim) Charles of Platteville; Mark (Sally) of Madison; Steven (Debbie) of Madison; Patti (Doug) Ripperger Eldridge, IA; Fifteen grand children and nine great-grandchildren; his sister Joan Hagar of Onset, MA; and nieces and nephew who meant so much to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wifes parents, Albert and Theresa Lettsome; two brothers; and five nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at St. Marys Catholic Church in Platteville, with Father John Del Priore officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Platteville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home, Platteville, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
Marie Taber
Theresa Marie Taber, age 94, of
Platteville, passed away peacefully at her home at Sienna Crest Assisted
Living Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Marie was born April 24, 1922, in
Marseilles, IL. She attended one year of Northern Illinois State
Teachers college at DeKalb before moving to Savanah, GA with her parents
when her father was transferred. It was there she met the love of her
life, Sergeant Russell Taber, in front of a punch bowl at a USO dance.
While Russ was deployed for 2 years in the Pacific, Marie was employed as a
secretary at the Savannah Army Service Depot and played piano for dance
studios. They were married December 6, 1945, and were together for 65
years until Russ passed away in 2011. She had many jobs in her life,
but her favorite was being a mom to their 6 children and caring for her
home.
After a brief stay in Chicago, Russ & Marie
joined her sister and brother-in-law, Rosella and Ed Schroeder, as partners
in the Schroeder Taber General Store in Cuba City. In 1955 they moved
to Fennimore and operated their own Gamble's Hardware Store. They moved to
Platteville in 1961. Marie was always active in whatever community she
was in, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, typist for the Red Cross Blood
Mobil, volunteer for the Platteville Thrift Shop, Platteville Hospital
Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, United Way, and a very active member
of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She did not "retire" from volunteer
work until she was in her 80's.
Marie also had her own typing business and was
the typist for "Show Time" digest as well as a Doctorial and Master's thesis
typist for many UW-P professors and students.
She was known for her wonderful hospitality and
always had freshly baked cookies for her children's friends and delicious
desserts and coffee for the many adults who stopped in. Marie was also
a caring neighbor and blessed them with many meals, treats or help whenever
it was needed. In the words of a granddaughter: "I have learned more
from her about true love, strong faith, and delicious baking, then I have
from anyone else."
Marie is survived by six children; Tom (Bev) of
Platteville, Jim (Pam) of Kaneohe, HI, Sharon (Tim) Charles of Platteville,
Mark (Sally) of Poynette, Steve (Debbie) of Madison; Patti (Doug) Ripperger
of Eldridge IA;15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and a
nephew who meant so much to her.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on
Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Platteville with Father Faustino Ruiz officiating. Burial was in
Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends called on Saturday
from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz
Funeral Home & Crematory of Platteville is entrusted with services.
Special thanks to mom's Sienna Crest family
for their loving care and the compassionate Grant County Hospice team.
You all were her support (and ours) during a challenging time in her life.
Ivanell Tanner
Ivanell L. Peterson Tanner, age 91, of
Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Orchard
Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on
April 6. 1926, in Ellenboro Township, the daughter of Noel and Essie
(Dobson) Hartnett. Ivanell attended Buck Wheat Ridge
Country School. She was united in marriage to Sydney R.
Peterson on June 6, 1942. After their marriage, the
couple farmed the Peterson family farm. He preceded her
in death in 1976. Ivanell later married Gail E. Tanner on
November 18, 1980. He preceded her in death in 2004.
She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church and the
Whig United Methodist Church. Ivanell was also a member
of various homemaker's clubs, and enjoyed playing cards, sewing, gardening,
and baking. She was a member of Farm Bureau and was
crowned Farm Bureau Queen at the Grant County Fair.
Ivanell dearly loved keeping up with her family and their activities.

Kyle (Christine) Elliott; Amy (Dennis) Busch; Ashley (Rob) Crubel;

(Craig) Zell; granddaughter-in-law, Lynn Elliott; 26 great-grandchildren;
her siblings: Bernard "Buzz" (Beverly) Hartnett; Aloa "Sweetie" Winkers;
many nieces, nephews and member of the Tanner family.
In addition to her husbands, Sydney Peterson and Gail
Tanner, Ivanell was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Elliott;
her sister, Irene (Hanson) Peterson; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Winkers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 5, 2017,
at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster, at
11:00 a.m. with Pastor Carter Jorgenson officiating.
Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family
and friends called on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the
funeral home.
Allan
L. Taylor
Allan L. Taylor, age 81, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, December 06, 2010, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. He was born on January 13, 1929, on the farm in Bloomington, the son of Ray and Amy (Schneider) Taylor. Allan had one younger brother, Lyle Tinker Taylor. After graduating from Patch Grove High School, Allan worked for a short time before entering the United States Army on February 21, 1951. He served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on February 3, 1953 as Corporal Allan L. Taylor. On May 29, 1952, Allan was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Kluesner at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington. After Allan was discharged from the military, he and Dorothy owned and operated Taylors Store, formerly Hatchs Store in Bloomington until their retirement. Allan was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington and the Hanley Ariss Millin American Legion Post No. 5 of Patch Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Taylor, Bloomington; his children: Sherri (Calvin King) Novak, Onalaska; Elizabeth (Mike) Onsrud, Galesville; Bruce (Chris) Taylor, Lodi; eight grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Taylor, Bloomington; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle, son-in-law, Stan Novak; brothers-in-law, Jim Kluesner, Bob (Judy) Kluesner, sister-in-law, Joyce Kluesner, and niece, Diane Guanella.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. Marys Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends called on Thursday, December 9, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington where a 4:00 p.m. scripture service will be held. Friends also called on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to the Bloomington Rescue Squad.
Aaron R. Taylor
Aaron R. Taylor, age 34, of
Lancaster, was freed from his pain on Monday, September 23, 2013, at
his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle
with cancer. He was born on March 4, 1979, in
Lancaster, the son of Richard and Sandra (Landon) Taylor.
Aaron graduated from Lancaster High School in 1998 and
furthered his education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College
where he earned a degree in masonry. He was
employed at Milprint in Lancaster as an Assistant Press Operator for
several years. Aaron also worked part time as a
mason laying the brickwork for homes in the Lancaster community.
He enjoyed deer hunting, morel hunting, four wheeling, and
raising animals, especially rabbits, pheasants, turkeys, chickens,
ducks, and cows. Aaron loved being on the farm
and enjoyed the farm life. He also loved spending
time with family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who
knew him.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Sandy
Taylor, Lancaster; his siblings: Ben (Aja) Taylor
and their daughter, Kathryn, Lancaster; Alicia Taylor, Mineral
Point; Kinsey (Ryan Eggers) Taylor, Madison; his long-time
girlfriend, Liz Wood, Lancaster; his paternal grandmother, Margaret
Taylor, Lancaster; his maternal grandmother, Wilma Landon;
Lancaster; his aunts and uncles: Terry (Elaine)
Taylor, Jacksonville, FL; Betty (Gene) Steiger, Bloomington; Roger
(Deanna) Taylor, Potosi; Larry (June) Landon, Barb (Tony) Bausch,
Mike (Gloria) Landon, and Alan (Sarah) Landon, all of Lancaster;
great-aunts, great-uncles and many cousins.
Aaron was preceded in death by his paternal
grandfather, Donald Taylor; his maternal grandfather, Byron Landon;
an uncle, Jim Taylor; and his cousins, Tyler Bausch and Jason
Landon.

Dorothy M. Taylor
Dorothy M. Taylor, age 92, of Lancaster, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. She was born July 4, 1918; the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Van Natta) Cavanaugh.
Dorothy graduated from Platteville High School and then attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque, IA. She married James Arthur Taylor on January 4, 1945. Together they farmed in the Potosi area for many years. Dorothy was a member of Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi. She loved her family and extended families. The family get-togethers were very special to her. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and visiting with her many friends and family. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving is her daughter, Margaret (John) Clauer, Lancaster; six grandchildren: Bruce and Jane Clauer, Lancaster; Brian and Sue Clauer, Bagley; Brenda and Dan Reynolds, Potosi; Linda and Greg Stanek, LaValle; Kevin Clauer, Lancaster; and Lisa and Kerry Zenz, Blue Mounds; 16 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; two nephews: Don Wolf and Ervin Schmitz; a niece, Dianne Thorpe; and an sister-in-law, Gertrude Gertie Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, on March 14, 2000; her sisters: Velma Schmitz and Edna Wolf; and a nephew and a niece.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Marilyn Hendricks officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends called from 3:00 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the Schwartz Funeral Home and after 12:00 noon on Wednesday. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dorothy M. Taylor memorial fund has been established.
Gertrude A. Taylor
Gertrude A. Gertie Taylor, age 87, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster. She was born on July 23, 1923, in Beetown Township, the daughter of Fred and Emma (McNeilly) Gates. Gertrude attended Muscallounge Grade School and also Lancaster High School. On July 7, 1941, she was united in marriage to Alfred Taylor in Dubuque, Iowa. Together they farmed in Grant County until retirement in 1980. Gertie was an avid collector and enjoyed antique auctions. She also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with her husband. Gertie was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church and a past member of the Little Grant Saddle Club, 4-H Club, and Cow Bells.
Survivors include her children: Cheryl (Donald) Skaife, Livingston; Richard (Judith) Taylor, Lancaster; five grandchildren: Troy Knapp, Justin (Tamara) Knapp, Steve (Lisa) Taylor, Kathy (Ricky) Bruce, and Duane (Wendy) Taylor; six great grandchildren; a sister, Leanore Baker, Madison; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Joseph Gates and a sister, Donna Gates.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends called on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Gregory Taylor
Gregory Thomas Taylor, age 63, of
Platteville, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at his home in
Platteville after a long illness. He was born on June 21,
1951, in Lancaster, the son of Herbert and Virgie (Chapman) Taylor. Greg
graduated from Lancaster High School. He was employed at Taylor Tree Farms
in Stitzer and Muscoda. Greg was currently employed at
Clare Bank in Platteville. He enjoyed football and
baseball games.
Survivors include his mother, Virgie Taylor, Lancaster;
a sister-in-law, Tina (Joel) Ames and their children:
Brian (Casie), Shonda, and Rhonda Taylor.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Herbert; a
brother, David Taylor and a sister, Cindy Taylor.
Family and friends were invited to attend graveside
services that were held on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at
Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating.
In keeping with Gregs wishes, there was no public visitation.

Catherine A. Tennessen
Catherine A. Tennessen, age 89, passed away at Grant Regional Health Center on Wednesday, November 2, 2011. She was born on January 9, 1922, in Bay View, WI, the daughter of Robin and Antoinette (Schuette) Middlemas. After her graduation from Marquette University, Catherine met and married Sylvester Tenny Tennessen at Jesus Catholic Church on the Marquette University Campus. Together they operated the Middlemas Florist and Acme Auto Salvage. In 1966, they moved to Cassville and purchased a farm, which was their dream, which is now the Tennessen Family Farm. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include her children: Robin, Tyler (Nancy), Cliff (Marge), and Cathy; her grandchildren: Amy (Zach) Zavac, Leanne (Kurt) Skipper, Cory (Shannon) Burgess, Jane Tennessen, Mike (Tanya) Tennessen, and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester and two grandchildren: Tom and Laura Tennessen, and a great-grandson, Andrew Burgess.
Private family grave side services were held at St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family.
Ruth Ann Terwilliger
Ruth Ann Bailey Terwilliger,
age 98, passed into eternal peace on August 30, 2013, joining her
husband, Emmett Sr, son, Charles, and granddaughter, Lexy. She
was born on February 8, 1915, in Potosi Township. Ruth Ann
graduated from Lancaster High School and the University of
Wisconsin. During her college years, Ruth Ann became a member of
Alpha Chi Omega and Zeta Phi Eta and continued to be an active
alumna for over seventy-five years. Also while at the University,
she was a member of a revitalized women's crew team. Miss Bailey
taught high school English in Black River Falls until she married E.
W. Terwilliger on June 7, 1941. After the war, Ruth Ann, her
husband and young son, Emmett Jr, settled in Lancaster, Wisconsin.
For many years, Ruth Ann and her husband spent winters in St.
Petersburg, Florida. Ruth Ann was active in many community
organizations as a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Lancaster
Hospital Auxiliary, Lancaster Garden Club, Catherine Eaton Circle
and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Ruth Ann was a member of the first Girl
Scout troop in Lancaster, and later in life, she served as troop
leader for over ten years. Ruth Ann enjoyed attending and serving
her church and was a 75 year member of the Lancaster Congregational
Church. Family was very important to Ruth Ann. She
shared her home and holidays with generations of family and friends.
She was an excellent gardener, enjoyed a challenging game of
bridge, and played an impressive round of golf well into her senior
years.She was a caring and giving person who touched many lives.
Ruth Ann is survived by her children, Emmett
(Carol) and MaryAnn (Todd Anderson); and her grandchildren, Emily
(Justin Zampardi), Andrew, and Molly and two great-grandsons, Bailey
and Vinny Zampardi.
Please join us in celebrating Ruth Ann's life on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church with Reverend Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. A luncheon will follow the service in the church center. Brian Theisen
Brian J. Theisen, age 42, passed away
Thursday, March 16, 2017, at his residence. He was born December 14, 1974,
the son of Ralph and Donna (Adrian) Theisen, at Xavier Hospital in Dubuque,
Iowa. Brian graduated from Cassville High School in 1992. He worked with his
father, Ralph, learning many mechanical skills, such as welding and
painting. Brian also worked at Schuller's in Dubuque and was currently
employed at Archer Daniels Midland in Cassville as a welder. He will be
remembered for his hard work ethic and love for his family.
Survivors include his sons: Hunter and Andrew Theisen;
his mother, Donna Theisen; loving companion, Heather
Millard and her children, Kyler and Kiara Hefty; his siblings: Todd (Brandy)Theisen,
Tami (Jim Buetow) Soppe, and Dan (Amanda) Haas; nieces
and nephews: Moria, Otto, BJ, Shawna, Tawney, Rosalynn and Austin; many
members of the Theisen and Adrian family.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph; paternal
grandparents: Otto (Mary) Theisen; maternal grandparents: Francis (Pearl)
Adrian; uncles: Bill, Nick and Randy Adrian; his aunt, Kay Johnstone.

Rosemary I. Rosie
Thornton, age 80, of Bagley, died

William M. Thornton, age 33 of Bagley, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born March 3, 1979 in Cuba City, son of Jeff and Barb (Wagner) Thornton. Bill graduated River Ridge High School in 1997, and furthered his education at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore with a degree in engine machining. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Bloomington, and married Kerry L. Coates there, on October 18, 2003. Bill dearly loved spending time with his family, and life on the farm.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Kerry; his loving children, Madelyn, Elliott, Eden and Maggie; His parents Jeff (Barb) Thornton; brothers, Brian (Tina) and Ethan (Jessica Foreman) Thornton; mother and father in law, David (Linda) Coates; brother in laws, Jesse (Jennifer) and Shaun (Katie) Coates; grandmothers Anne Wagner and Irene Coates; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 535 Congress Street, in Bloomington with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in the Blake's Prairie Cemetery. In keeping with Bill's wishes, there was no visitation. In lieu of plants, flowers and other forms of tribute, a William M. Thornton memorial fund has been established, with proceeds to be used for his children's future.
Elaine V. Timmerman
Elaine was a passionate gardener, whose flower beds were featured in the Potosi Tour of Gardens. She also enjoyed canning, sewing, knitting, crocheting, (Potosi Quilters) and Swimnastics. Elaine was a giving person and would often help those who were less fortunate in their times of need. She was also active in her church. Most of all, Elaine loved spending time with her family. Family meant everything to her.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Potosi; seven children: Robert Hartline, Belleville, IL; Michelle Endres, Whitewater; Steve (Cella) Hartline, Lancaster; Deanna (John) Seippel, Lancaster; Katherine (Terry) McMahon, Lodi; Nancy (Bill) Nabak and Rhonda (Wesley) Knoespel both of Green Bay; three step-children: Amy (Todd) Klein, Stoughton; Kurt (Terri) Timmerman, Delavan and Chris (Erin) Timmerman, Verona; 30 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Carlos (Betty) Winters, Montfort; Jerome (Carolyn) Winters, Madison; Maxine Moriva, Madison and Roscoe Winters (special friend, Evelyn); nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Don Moriva and a sister-in-law, LaRonda Winters.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation was held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services all at the church. The Martin Funeral Home in Potosi served family.
In lieu of flowers and plants, a Elaine V. Timmerman Memorial Fund has been established.
Kim Titley
Kim A. Titley, age 61, of Mount Hope,
passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center
in La Crosse.
In keeping with Kim's wishes there was no
visitation or funeral service. Martin Funeral Home &
Cremation Services in Bloomington is assisting the family.
